Cooling Oil Valve Cannot Be Calibrated - Audi DL382 S-Tronic Transmission

Causes, Solution & Key Information

A common issue in vehicles equipped with the Audi DL382 S-Tronic transmission:
After an oil change, software update, or replacement of transmission components, the cooling oil valve can no longer be adapted or calibrated.

The fault memory typically shows the following error:

"P1A5B00 - Cooling Oil Valve: No Basic Setting"

📌 Background:

In many cases, the required environmental conditions for calibration are no longer met - due to mileage, external influences, or even new parts that operate outside of system specification.
In rare cases, replacing the cooling oil valve alone may temporarily resolve the issue.

Solution: Replace the Mechatronic Unit

If the basic setting still fails after multiple attempts and following GFS (ODIS) procedures, the entire mechatronic unit (valve body + control unit) must be replaced as outlined in the repair manual.

Important:
The replacement mechatronic unit comes with a pre-calibrated cooling oil valve - recalibration is not required and must not be performed!

🔧 After replacement, perform only the following steps:

  • Calibration of position sensors (G487 to G490)
  • Adaptation of clutch bite points
  • Gear selector sensor calibration (only for vehicles with manual shift cable - e.g. Audi A6 4G, Q5 8R)

These steps ensure full system functionality and help prevent unnecessary repeat repairs.
